I saved the m-wing for Marty and found a w-wing with a grouped SL.

w-wing(69)r3c8|r8c6 GSL 6r178

6r1c9-(6=9)r3c8

6r7c9-r9c8=r9c4-(6=9)r8c6

6r8c9-(6=9)r8c6

Plus transport: 9r8c6-r9c4=r2c4; -9r2c89,r3c6

Thanks Ted, but I did the near-impossible and missed it even knowing it's there.

I used the W-Wing (67) in boxes 25 followed by a Finned X-Wing in r19; r3c8<>6. |

I think I see one on (67), which opens up one on (69), but they don't solve the puzzle.

(Update: now I think the (69) one solves the puzzle from basics...) |

Yes, I cheated a bit by turning the m-wing into a w-wing plus a pincer transport using part of the m-wing path.

Yep, that was it.

Just for the practice, the (67) one that doesn't solve it went like this:

(6=7)r1c6-(7)r12c4=(7-6)r6c4=(6)r56c5 ==>r3c5<>6

I'm not all that clear about m-wings, though. May I ask, does the pattern always feature two identical bivalue nodes? I bet not, since the second is a weak link. |

You are right. The node having the weak link does not have to be bivalue.

I see it as having one bivalue with an internal strong link(X=Y). There are only these two values in the SIS (XY).

M-Wing: 3-SIS using bivalue(XY), bilocation(Y), and bilocation(X) |

As architech mentioned, you are correct that the weak link doesn't need to be a bivalue cell. Also, each bilocation indicated by architech can actually be a grouped strong inference. For reference, ronk created a table of 15 different M-Wing types/patterns. He also includes puzzles that contain each type/pattern. Anyone interested in tackling these puzzles? |

As I recall, you helped find many of those puzzles. Thanks. |
