				| I am fairly new and a fairly slow learner.  I see the examples of x-wings and unique rectangles, but I could use a simple definition and a simple explanation of the logic behind each.

 It also might help us help you if you tried to explain what you do know/understand, which would prevent somebody on this site from rehashing the parts you do understand.
