Where's Clement when you need him? Very Happy

I found this to be quite different from the usual VH. I saw no freebies at the start and populating the grid was more complicated than usual, as were the basics. But after that there was a typical solution.

I certainly agree that this was one of the most difficult ones just to get through the basics!

From the position posted by Arkietech the 356 XY-wing centered in r2c1 leads to the solution.

This is a tough puzzle. I am stumped. I have the grid pretty much like the diagram provided by arkietech, except I have a 3 in the following squares: C1R2 (making it 356), C7R2 (making it 359), AND C8R2 (making it 368). After working on this for quite awhile, I cannot figure out how to make those 3's disappear. I would appreciate some help. Many thanks.

All of your extra 3's are eliminated because the 3 in box 2 must be in row 2, thus precluding a 3 elsewhere in that row.

This technique for eliminating candidates is known as Locked Candidates or Box-Line Interactions.

After solving only a few squares, naked singles, there is a W-wing 35 - 13 - 13 - 35 in chute 1 that solves it.
