|
In this thread in the "Other Puzzles" section, Pat pointed out (quite correctly, of course) that my "Helmut's Sudoku Helper" did not verify the uniqueness / validity of an imported puzzle.
I remember back when I wrote HSH I intended to put this on my "to do" list for later, but then "later" never came ...
So now I finally got around to doing what should have been there in the first place, I've upgraded HSH to find the number of solutions and refuse to import unless the puzzle has exactly one solution.
The Sudoku Helper can be found here:http://www.saueregger.at/sudoku/HSH/HSH.htm
To verify a puzzle, just paste a puzzle into the box on the right hand side and hit "Do it". If it imports without error message, the puzzzle is valid.

Notes:
- the program will stop looking for more solutions once 100+ solutions have already been found.
- Most often, the reason for "too many solutions" is an incorrect Sudoku type. The X-Sudokus, for example, have two additional implicit constraints (diagonals) that can reduce the number of solutions from several thousand to only one. |
